Common species from the humid lowland rainforest of Panama
This ground-growing Philodendron spreads with a creeping stem that grows along the ground surface. The leaves are the pride of the plant, they extend elegantly in an arc and grow up to 50 cm long and about 36 cm wide.
Botanical description.
This Philodendron species occurs from sea level up to about 750 meters in altitude, in some cases even up to 1200 meters. The plant thrives in humid tropical environments. Its natural range is from Nicaragua to Ecuador.
Care.
Philodendron grandipes is a ground-growing plant in nature and can therefore be grown in an oblong pot. This will allow the plant to creep forward and form increasingly larger leaves. Since the species comes from humid forests near sea level, it grows best in a humidity of around 70%. The soil should be well-drained and allowed to dry out a bit between waterings. This species comes from the ground and can tolerate low light levels, but still requires indirect light indoors.
This unusual Philodendron offers large wavy leaves and a little piece of the Panama rainforest at home. Buy Philodendron grandipes online!
