Croton's beautifully patterned leaves absorb toxic organic compounds.

Croton mamey ( Codiaeum variegatum var. pictum 'Mamy' ) is an incredibly colorful houseplant known for its smooth, leathery leaves. These leaves are decorated with a mix of yellow, orange, red, purple, bright pink, and green patterns.

What makes it even more fascinating is its unique growth habit. This codiaeum grows in a twisted, corkscrew-like manner, giving the plant distinctive, curly leaf edges.

Care.

Like many indoor plants, Croton likes to be in a place where the light, soil, temperature and humidity are just right. Croton needs a lot of light, preferably indirect bright light. For example, place it by a south-facing window. If your Croton doesn't get enough light, the leaves may lose their vibrant color and the plant will become long and lanky with leaves that lack the rich, dark shades.

If the leaves droop, it is a sign of overwatering, while if they dry out or fall off, it may be a sign of underwatering. Keep the soil moist, but only water when the top 2 cm of soil feels dry.

Croton likes well-drained soil rich in organic matter. A mixture of organic compost and coco peat works well. Our peat-free soil is a good choice.

Botanical description.

The scientific name of this variety is 'Codiaeum variegatum var. variegatum'. Mamey is the cultivar that highlights the colorful leaves. This plant comes from East Java to Fiji.

Appearance.

The large, paddle-shaped leaves are filled with a rainbow of colors. Croton usually grows to about 60–90 cm tall as a houseplant, although it can grow larger when planted outdoors as is often done in the tropics. Its unique shape and growth habit have earned it the nickname "Corkscrew Croton". Do you love colorful plants? Buy Croton mamey online!
