Coffea Arabica, also known as Arabic coffee, is a plant known for producing the highest quality coffee beans in the world.
Originally from the Ethiopian highlands, this species has spread throughout the world and is now cultivated in many tropical and subtropical regions. It is prized for its rich, aromatic coffee that is less bitter and has a more complex flavor profile than other coffee varieties.
Care: With the environment in mind, we always recommend growing in peat-free soil, e.g. our own mixed soil . This soil mixture reduces the risk of overwatering and root rot. Coffea Arabica thrives best in indirect light and should be kept in an environment with high humidity. Water regularly but allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings to avoid overwatering.
Botanical Description
Scientific name: Coffea Arabica
Threat of extinction: Not threatened
Origin: Coffea Arabica originates from the Ethiopian highlands in Africa. It is now grown in many coffee-producing regions around the world, including Latin America, Africa and Asia.
Leaves: The leaves are large, shiny and dark green. They are elliptical to oval in shape and can be up to 15 cm long. The leaves are arranged in pairs on the stems and have a slightly wavy edge.
Flowers: The flowers are small, white and fragrant. They grow in clusters along the stems and usually flower during the dry season. The flowering can lead to the whole plant being covered in white flowers, giving a very decorative appearance.
Fruit: The fruit, called "coffee berry", is oval and turns red or purple when ripe. Each berry contains two coffee beans covered in a thin, sweet pulp. These beans are roasted and ground to make coffee.
Growth Pattern: Coffea Arabica is a shrub or small tree that can grow up to 3-5 meters tall in the wild, but is usually kept smaller by pruning when grown commercially or as an ornamental plant.
Coffea Arabica is an attractive and useful ornamental plant that can be grown indoors or in a greenhouse. Its beautiful foliage, fragrant flowers and of course the valuable coffee beans make it a prized plant for coffee lovers and garden enthusiasts alike. Buy Coffea Arabica online!
