Plants that thrive in indirect light
Everyone loves green plants, but it is not always easy to find the right place in the home for them to thrive. The solution we propose are plants that thrive in the shade and can cope indirect light! These easy-care plants are true survivors and are perfect for those who do not have a home with bright windows or lots of sunlight.
Can a plant get too much light?
In fact, many common indoor green plants actually prefer to be out of direct sunlight. Too much light can burn the leaves and cause them to lose their beautiful green color. Plants such as climbing calla or a classic palm plant in a pot are examples of plants that can tolerate darkness, although they will not thrive as well as in indirect light. An example of a shadowy or dark light level is a bathroom, hall without windows or basement.
Here are some favorites among houseplants that thrive in shade:
- Klätterkalla : A beautiful indoor climbing plant that gives a modern and green feel without requiring direct sunlight.
- Moses stone tablets : A charming and extremely easy-care plant that thrives in dark corners or as a decoration on a growing shelf.
- Fredskalla: One of the most popular and common houseplants, which also helps to purify the air in the home.
- Calathea: Calatheas such as round calathea, wave leaf calathea and calathea triostar have grown large even in low light levels.
- Elk horn bracken: A type of fern with long pointed leaves that grow up to half a meter long. Even our other ferns thrive best in indirect light but can tolerate shade.
- Peperomias: Many of our peperomia varieties are best grown in indirect light but can also be grown in the shade, although they often grow very slowly.
Plants and shady environments
Do you need tips on plants in the shade? You can easily create greenery even in homes with few hours of sunlight. Plants for shade such as ferns, monsteras and certain types of palms are perfect for lighting up dark rooms. For an even better result, you can supplement with indoor plant lighting.
Why should you choose plants that don't need a lot of light?
These are often easy-care plants that do not require constant care and redecorating. Perfect for rooms with limited natural light, such as bathrooms, bedrooms or offices. Many of these plants that thrive in the shade are also humidifying and improve the air indoors.
Tips for success
Plants that stand in the shade often need a soil that does not hold too much moisture, to avoid root rot (root rot). If it's really dark, you can also invest in indoor plant lighting to boost your green plants. Plants in the shade also need less water because they don't dry out as quickly as plants in direct sun.
Do you want green plants that can withstand darkness or perhaps an easy-to-maintain climbing plant indoors? Explore our wide range and create a tropical room with plants that thrive in the shade, no matter how light or dark your indoor environment is!
