Philodendron billietiae has long, narrow and heavily veined leaves with orange stems.
Philodendron billietiae is a relatively 'new' green plant, first described in 1995. It quickly became a popular indoor houseplant and is now grown worldwide for its naturally elongated large leaves. Philodendron billietiae comes from the family of the nightshades in South America.
Brief botanical description.
Philodendron billietiae comes from Guyana and Brazil (Pará). The name billietiae comes from Frieda Billiet who first described the species. It is not currently endangered.
Care:
Philodendron billietiae is one of the easier-to-care-for indoor green plants. To thrive, this cold-hardy plant needs to be grown in well-drained soil, such as our aroid & orchid soil .
Plant the plant in a clear plastic pot so you can easily see how the roots are doing through the pot. Water when the soil is only slightly moist 1-2 cm below the surface. If using a clear orchid pot, you can also know it's time to water when no mist is visible through the pot.
When the roots start to feel cramped, it's time to repot your Philodendron. It thrives best in bright indirect light.
Appearance:
The leaves are long, narrow and arrow-shaped with clear, prominent veins. They can grow up to 60 cm long and 20 cm wide under optimal conditions. The dark green color of the leaves and their glossy surface make them very attractive. Especially if allowed to grow on a plant support. The leaf stalks are long and have a distinctive orange color, which gives the plant an extra decorative touch.
Plant type:
Philodendron billietiae has a climbing growth habit, using its aerial roots to attach itself to support structures. It can also grow as a bushy plant if it is not given any support to climb on.
Philodendron billietiae is an impressive and decorative plant that can bring a tropical feel to your life. Buy Philodendron billietiae online.
