Well known from cultivation as a houseplant in the Philippines, and introduced to aroid enthusiasts as Alocasia cv. Samar Lance in 1984. It was first described as a species in 1999.
Alocasia scalprum is a rare plant characterized by its deep green leaves, often with a metallic sheen, and a sculpted, almost knife-like shape, giving rise to its Latin name "scalprum" (Latin for "chisel" or "knife") . The leaf surface is smooth and glossy, and the leaf veins are marked but subtle.
Care: We grow ours in specially adapted Aroid soil . Partial shade to indirect bright light. Even moisture in the soil, but avoid letting it stand in water. Thrives best in warm temperatures between 18-25°C and should be protected from drafts.
